Hawke’s Bay Wine & Food Tours
Hawke’s Bay produces some of New Zealand’s best wines and is home to a wide range of artisan food producers.
Marist missionaries opened the first winery here in 1851, making Hawke’s Bay the oldest wine region in the country. From small beginnings, there are now nearly 5,000 producing hectares planted here, with 79 wineries and 171 independent grape growers. Wine makers continue to be successful with both classic wine styles and experimental varieties.
Red wine production is centred on Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are the main white varietals; however wineries have also successfully introduced Gewürztraminer, Viognier, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Semillon, and Chenin Blanc.
Hawke’s Bay abundance of fresh produce has given rise to an excellent selection of restaurants, cafes and farmers markets.
There are some great ways to explore the wineries, including self guided tours, small-group tours or private personalised visits. Please contact us
